HAWK JUNIOR TRYOUT MAY 16 & 17 - PITTSBURGH, PA AREA!

The Palm Beach Hawks Junior Program is excited to announce that we will hold our first tryout camp in the Pittsburgh, PA. area on May 16th and 17th. We will be holding this tryout at the Blade Runners Ice Complex in Harmarville, PA. The Palm Beach Blackhawks U-16 AA Team is heading to the USA Hockey Midget U-16 Nationals. The team received a “wild card” entry into the national tournament. This is the first time a Palm Beach Blackhawks team has gone to the Nationals. This is a huge accomplishment for the entire team and for Coach Preston Wanamaker as well for our entire program! The Tier II U16 (2A) Nationals will be played in Reston, Virginia from April 2nd thru April 6th. The Blackhawks will take on the Valencia Jr Flyers, Hoosier Wings and the Maine Freeze in Pool-A play and then the teams will re-seed for play on the weekend. The Blackhawks are in the 2A pool of teams. Good Luck boys and we are so, so proud of you guys!
The Blackhawks have completed their regular seasons in the SFHL and FAHL and will be sending eight teams to the SAHOF State Playoffs! Our Squirt A & AA teams both qualified for post season action. The AA squad was a runner up this year in the Orlando MLK tournament.
The Peewee A Black team tied for second place in the FAHL with a 15-1-2 league record. Their season included Early Bird & MLK Tournament Championships and a runner up in the prestigious Silverstick Tournament Regional. Their overall record was an impressive 29-8-3! Not to be outdone, the Peewee AA team finished a solid SFHL season in second place with a 15-4-1 record. Their season included Labor Day & Thanksgiving Tournament Championships and a runner up in the JWK Winter "AAA" tournament. They finished with a terriffic 27-9-3 overall record.
The Bantam division will see all three Blackhawk teams in the mix at states. The "A" Red team finished third in the FAHL with a 12-5-1 record. They grabbed the "Eye of the Storm" Championship during their 14-7-2 tournament season - a great 26-12-3 overall. The "A" Black squad finished right behind Red in fourth place with an 11-6-1 league record. They did not fare as well in tournament play - with a 7-20-1 record. The Bantam AA made it to the post season finishing at 7-9-4 in SFHL play and 15-16-5 overall. They won the Hemby Cup Championship in North Carolina!
The Midget U16AA team had a 9-7-2 SFHL record and also qualified for the state tournament. Overall, they finished above .500 at 20-17-2 winning the Orlando MLK Tournament. They were also runner ups in the Thanksgiving & Labor day tournaments they participated in.
The Hawks organization and Blackhawk coaching staff are very proud of all the player's efforts this season and the proof of this effort is in your strong representation in the SAHOF playoffs. Thank you parents and volunteers for your support throughout the season, we would not be in this position without it! We wish all our teams good luck...play hard...and have fun in the post season - win or lose, you've made us proud!
In addition to the great news about Jakob Chychrun, who spent all of last season practicing with our Junior Hawks program, we have some other great news about former and current Hawks!! Jake Simon, another Florida product and Junior Hawks player is the second leading scorer at Cushing Academy. Jake is enjoying the opportunity of a two year full scholarship at Cushing which the Junior Hawks were instrumental in garnering for him.Way to go Jake, keep pursuing your dream.
The Junior Hawks are also extremely proud to announce the first College commitments of this season's current Hawk squad! Zac Kemble has committed to attend school and play his college hockey at Division II - Franklin Pierce University in New Hampshire. Zak is being offered a substantial academic scholarship and an opportunity to become their starting goalie next season.
Two other Junior Hawks players have made their commitments to pursue their academic and hockey careers at Aurora University outside of Chicago, Illinois. Both Dan Fuller and Tyler McConnell will be joining the newly formed Division 3 program in the fall. Both of these young men will be receiving substantial academic commitments from Aurora to pursue their goals at the college level.We will have more college commitments coming in the coming weeks!
15 year old Jakob Chychrun is a product of Florida youth hockey and is now one of the most highly touted prospects in Ontario. The defenseman is expected to go first overall in this year's OHL draft. Jakob who skated with the HAWKS as a practice player in Skatezone, moved to Toronto to see his hockey dreams come true. Two of Coach Tim's alumns, Goalie Zach Andrews (UMass Boston) & Defense man Brad Jones (Salem St) squared off against one another in early January at "Frozen" Fenway Park. UMass Boston, lead in goal by Zach, ending up winning 4-2. Both players played for Tim as members of the U-16 AAA Golden Wolves & U-18 AAA Florida Alliance teams. Great job boys - very proud of both of them!

The Peewee AA avenged an earlier loss to the Fl Jr Panthers squad by beating them in the championship game with a 2-0 shutout victory. The team went 5-1 in the prestigious tournament and their overall season record now stands at an impressive 16-5-2. Congratulations on a great weekend of hockey!!

BIG BEAR - EYE OF THE STORM TOURNAMENT 10/10 - 10/13

THE BIG BEAR "EYE OF THE STORM" TOURNAMENT WAS BACK IN TOWN THIS PAST WEEKEND AND THERE WAS A LOT OF GREAT HOCKEY PLAYED BY OUR FLORIDA "A" HOCKEY CLUBS AT SKATEZONE AND THE PALM BEACH ICE WORKS. THE BLACKHAWKS BANTAM A RED TEAM WAS THE BIG WINNER FOR THE BLACKHAWKS WINNING THE BANTAM A-2 DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP ! THEIR FINAL RECORD WAS 3-0-1 WITH A THRILLING 5-4 DOUBLE OVERTIME WIN IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME OVER THE JR BOLTS. AN HONORABLE MENTION GOES OUT TO THE PEEWEE A RED SQUAD WHO TIED THE MIAMI TOROS WHITE 3-3 IN THEIR CONSOLATION GAME . The Hawks swooped down into North Carolina last weekend and preyed upon our Southern USPHL counterparts. After taking one on the chin versus the Hampton Roads club, the Hawks Elite squad responded with three straight wins, shutting out the Atlanta Knights and East Coast Eagles in the process and finishing 3-1 for the trip. The Elite team now sits atop the Southern Conference standings with an 8-2 record good for 16 points - best in the USPHL Elite league!
Not to be out done, the Empire team went 4-1 in their contests with their only loss coming in overtime! They now stand at 5-2-1 (11 points), three points behind the division leading East Coast Eagles and one point behind the second place Florida Eels. The Hawks season continues on the road this weekend with both teams playing the Tampa Juniors in Ellenton.
