THE PEEWEE A TEAM DEFEATED THE FLORIDA EELS IN A THRILLING 2-1 CHAMPIONSHIP GAME IN KISSIMMEE, FL
The Blackhawk squad went 4-1 on the weekend defeating the Tampa Raiders, Spacecoast Hurricanes, the host Kissimmee Vipers and the Florida Eels - outscoring their opponents 21-7! Their only loss came at the hands of the Florida Eels 4-3. They drew the Eels again in the championship game and this time the outcome favored the Blackhawks. Quinn Menosky got the team on the scoreboard with Andrew Barrett getting the game winner in the 2-1 win. Preston Darling was great in net in this one and yielded only seven goals in the five games played.
CONGRATULATIONS GO OUT FOR A GREAT WEEKEND!

| | | | | | | THE BLACKHAWKS TRAVEL HOCKEY PROGRAM | | | | | | by Tim Kyrkostas posted 12/01/2010
Our Mission
We’re a program that cares about every single player’s development, a program that prides itself on instilling discipline, commitment, hard work, teamwork, and sportsmanship in each and every one of our players. We emphasize the importance of excelling not only on the ice but also in the classroom. We’re a program that provides not just one coach for our players - but an entire coaching staff that works together unselfishly. We believe in the philosophy that the rink and program will raise our players. Our ultimate goal isn’t how many National Championships we win (we would like to win some) but rather how many players we develop to reach their maximum potential in the game and in life.
Coaching Staff
Our goal is to provide the best “coaches” that we can possibly find for our players. A great coach isn’t necessarily an ex-NHL player. Some of our coaches are professional, some are volunteers, but all of our coaches are “TEACHERS” who possess the following characteristics and qualities:
· A love for working with children
· A passion for the game
· Patience!
· Excellent communication and motivational skills
Tryout Format
We encourage you to contact us to learn more about our program and trying out for one of our teams.
Our Palm Beach Blackhawks 2011-12 team tryouts will begin sometime in late April or early May 2011.
Our goal is to field the following teams: Mites, Squirt Minor, Squirt Major AA, Peewee Minor AA, Peewee Major AA, Bantam Minor, Bantam Major AA, and a Midget AA team.
A tryout panel will be formed to help our coaches select each of our teams. Upon the completion of the last tryout there will be a TEAM SELECTION meeting where every player will be evaluated.
Each player will be notified in writing whether or not they made the team. For those not selected, we’ll do our best to outline areas to improve in order to be ready for our program the following season. Once teams are selected there will be team meetings to collect contracts and get players sized for the ordering of any new uniforms and apparel that they might need.
OUR ANNUAL PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO MAXIMIZE EACH PLAYER'S POTENTIAL
Fall & Winter Game Plan
Our Palm Beach Blackhawk travel hockey program officially starts in mid-August. Each team participates in a weeklong on- and off- ice conditioning camp. During this week the emphasis is on skating and conditioning in preparation for the regular season. We also present to each player their age-specific team “Systems & Philosophy Team Book” along with an Academic and Athletic Goals Sheet.
Our program emphasizes goal setting – both athletically and academically. Every player in our program is required to complete their goal sheets and to meet with the director periodically to review progress toward objectives.
Our teams have the following practice to game ratio: (50) team practices, (25) combined skill academy sessions, a minimum of (4) home exhibition games, and participation in the FAHL, SFHL, SEHL and tournaments both in- and out-of -state depending on team input.
Skill Academy Sessions
Our in-season Skill Academy is designed to accelerate our players’ overall hockey skills. Our coach- to-player ratio for these sessions is typically 1:8. Each session is structured as follows:
-
15-20 minutes devoted to power skating or edge control
-
30 -35 minutes of skill station work – emphasizing stick-handling, puck control, passing, shooting & checking
-
10 minutes of conditioning
Spring & Summer Game Plan
This is the time of year when our players work on their individual skills and overall conditioning. We’ve designed a series of clinics and camps specifically aimed at helping our players with this. The following programs will be offered following the conclusion of the 2010 –11 travel season:
-
Skills Academy Sessions
-
Power Skating Sessions
-
Checking Clinics
-
Defenseman Clinics
-
Goalie and Shooting Clinics
-
Stick ‘N Puck / Private Lesson & Group Lesson Time
-
Week-long Hockey Skills Camps
Various members of our coaching staff teach these sessions and camps so players can be exposed to different teaching styles and philosophies.
Spring Teams
Our Mite-Bantam Blackhawk teams may participate in the possibly newly formed I-95 spring league and/ or participate in various tournaments. Schedules are set by the director based on team and coaching staff input.
Our Midget players will be introduced to the Hawks U-16 Elite and Jr. Hockey Program player pool. Here, they’ll take part in a spring/summer off- ice program designed for strength and conditioning.
In addition, they’ll also take part in the South Florida Prospect Camp and the Summer Elite League. The South Florida Prospect Camp is a weeklong camp designed to showcase our top Bantam and Midget/Jr players to Professional, NCAA, and top Prep and Junior A coaches and scouts.
The Summer Elite League is comprised of the top Collegiate, Jr. and Prep Players from our area. The players are split up into teams that play 1 to 2 games per week all spring and summer long.
Finally, we participate in the Hockey Night In Boston Program and various NCAA Collegiate Showcases (Chowder Cup, Pre-Draft, Hub Cup, and Alliance Showcase) in Boston to further showcase our talent.
